Mom Launches Break-through Green Fundraising Alternative for US Schools

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 8, 2009 -- Bright Green Markets, a green fund-raising company, is breaking new ground by helping schools raise money with custom-fund-raising websites that offer environmentally smart, cost-saving products to the community. Schools no longer have to ask their supporters to log into a third-party website to buy eco-friendly products. Now, a school supporter can link directly to the school’s own custom website to buy products, and also learn about the school’s additional eco-initiatives.

The idea for Bright Green Markets (BGM) arose from the frustrations of Founder Martha Seabrook, mother of two young boys. "I saw school fundraisers that distributed heavy paper kits that asked kids to sell non-earth friendly products to win cheap plastic prizes," said Ms. Seabrook. “I thought there had to be a better way to do this." Her determination blossomed into a simple, paperless solution that provides year-round fundraising potential to schools and provides practical products that are significant savers on the energy bill and good for the environment.

“This is the perfect fund-raiser for environmentally-committed schools or green teams that are not only seeking a greener, smarter fund-raising alternative, but also want to profile and promote their other eco-initiatives on their own green websites,” said Martha Seabrook, creator of Bright Green Markets (BGM). “A school can set a goal on their website to reduce a certain amount of CO2 emissions or they can promote the use their fund-raising proceeds to support a green initiative like solar panels or a sustainable garden.”

At no cost, BGM provides each school with a custom website, url address, support materials and promotional ideas to jump start the campaign. Each website boasts a savings calculator as you shop to make the buyer aware of the money-saving attributes of using environmentally-friendly products.

Riverwood International Charter School in Atlanta, GA, branded and launched www.RiverwoodGreenMarkets in October. Having custom content and images on the fund-raising website has opened up new opportunities to promote the Environmental and Recycling Clubs, and the school’s green fund-raising goals. “This is the perfect extension to the values of our school, our students and our parents," said Riverwood Environmental Club Advisor Nico Moorman who plans to use the funds to purchase a solar water heater at the school.

Most of the Bright Green Market products offered by the eco-stores help the buyer save money on their energy bill and reduce carbon emissions. Each school’s custom on-line marketplace will offer products ranging from everyday items like CFL light bulbs and rechargeable batteries to more sophisticated and innovative products for consumers ready to make greener choices in their homes. They’ve even included several products with kids in mind like messenger bags made out of recycled billboards and solar phone chargers.

Each product ships directly to the customer eliminating product sorting, money collections and distribution by volunteers or staff. There is no cost to the fund-raising organization.
